Say it right: where next?

Being exact and up-to-date with language and terminology is both important but also it can tie you into knots.

We are all at some point on the progression from ‘Autism Awareness’ to Autism Understanding’ and next stop ‘Autism Acceptance’.

What’s the final stop? ‘Autism Celebration’ maybe?

Surely the ultimate objective should be where difference (autism or whatever) is just part of everyday life, experience and society.

We wouldn’t need an ‘Autism Anything’.

Differences wouldn’t need to be commented and individual adaptations were the norm.

Does that sound ambitious or unrealistic?

If we don’t have a final destination to aim for: will we know when we get near?

Might we take a wrong turn?

I am genuinely interested to hear your thoughts.
