Neurodiversity - down another rabbit hole.
I went down another interesting internet rabbit hole today.
I noticed on LinkedIn someone who is a ‘Certified Neurodiversity Professional’.
My curiosity was tweaked.
How would someone become certified in Neurodiversity?
Given that Neurodiversity is a collection of different conditions linked by their ‘variation in the human brain in a non-pathological sense’ what would be the content of the training?
How could you be a specialist in all the conditions?
On investigation, the certification came from the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES).
No? I hadn’t either.
Based in Florida, impressive website. It seems the focus of their Neurodiversity programme is creating a neurodiverse inclusive workplace.
That’s good – wonder if such a scheme would be useful in UK?
They also do Autism specific courses: For $495 I can become a Certified Autism Specialist (14 hours training, exam and a credential).
Interesting. Let’s look at the programme: Autism, Comorbidities, Parent Communication, Early Intervention, Program Development AND…Behaviour Modification.
Ahhh...maybe not then.
At least I have learned a new word: ‘Credentialing’.
Credentialing is the process of establishing the qualifications off licenced medical professionals and assessing their background and legitimacy – Wikipedia.
Yes – a medical term.
