What is full time work?
What’s your opinion of full time/part time?
A parent once asked me ‘How many hours a week do you work?’
I replied proudly ‘ Oh we all work for 39 hours a week’
Her response was ‘ I see … so you are all part-time?’
I was humbled as I could see the point she was making: for her, as a parent of an autistic child…that was full time, and we were simply dipping in and out of her daughter’s life.
Now many years later – I know she was right but at the same time, I expect very few in this profession only do our contracted hours.
What are you thinking about on the commute to work or on the way home?
What thoughts keep you awake in the middle of the night?
When you are walking the dog what new ideas come to you?
Are you preoccupied about how to help someone and frustrated when you can’t?
I am not going to be apologetic for being a professional and not a ‘full-time’ carer, but I do care and it’s a wee bit more than a full-time job.
What do you think?
Tell me here.
